The Bond Forged by Marie Antoinette – An Evening at Style K’s Atelier
Hello, this is Makoto from Brococo Paris. Paris has been quite cold these past few days, but unusually for this time of year, the sun has been shining, making for some beautiful weather. How is winter treating you in Japan?
A little time has passed since then, but last autumn, during our visit to Japan, we had the honor of being invited to dinner at the atelier of Keiko-san, the charismatic figure of Western interior remodeling in Japan, known for her brand, Style K.
I first met Keiko-san several years ago by chance at a museum in Paris, right in front of a bust of Marie Antoinette. At the time, while I was interested in Marie Antoinette and her era, I had never considered collecting antiques myself. Having just moved from Germany to Paris, I was completely focused on adjusting to my new life. Looking back now, those were exciting yet overwhelming times.
Meeting Keiko-san was serendipitous. We bonded instantly over our shared passion for 18th-century France and Marie Antoinette, and our conversation never seemed to end. Since then, whenever she visited Paris, we would explore places like the Palace of Versailles together, and we kept in touch through emails and social media. Then last year, we had the opportunity to visit Japan for a vacation, and Keiko-san graciously invited us to her atelier.
As expected from a true connoisseur, her atelier was the epitome of beauty—a space where every detail reflected the harmony of the golden ratio, reminiscent of a chamber in a French palace.
That evening, in response to Joffrey’s request, we enjoyed a wonderful Japanese meal. The table was adorned with antique pieces such as Old Saint Louis glasses, and every dish was presented with the utmost care, embodying a perfect fusion of Western and Japanese aesthetics. we were truly moved by Keiko-san’s impeccable sense of hospitality.
To make the night even more special, Mio-san from the Petit Trianon in Tokyo (whom we introduced in a previous blog post) and Yukari-san, whom I originally met in Paris with Keiko-san, also joined us. It was a night where all the connections brought together by Marie Antoinette finally converged, making it feel like destiny.
The evening concluded with a delicious matcha tea prepared by Keiko-san’s daughter.
Surrounded by beauty, exquisite cuisine, and deep conversations, it was an unforgettable experience. Encounters like these truly highlight the magic of connecting with the world through antiques.
We are deeply grateful to Keiko-san for her warm invitation and such a wonderful evening. Thank you so much!
